President Rouhani made the remark in a meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May on the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
President said as long as technical problems in banking and insurance have not been solved, the other party has not fulfilled its commitments.
He said the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a big development, being a symbol for settlement of differences and a base for cooperation. “All parties should adhere to careful and timely implementation of their JCPOA commitments.”
He added, “Iran has fully met its commitments and as long as the other party has fulfilled its commitments, we will also reciprocate.”
He noted that the European states should provide big banks with assurance of cooperation with Iran and London can take the main step in that connection.
Voicing pleasure with promotion and expansion of relations between Tehran and London over recent years, President Rouhani said, “With mutual respect and focus on cooperation within framework of common interests, we can overcome negative historical mentalities.”
The president went on to say, “We have witnessed outcome of cooperation between the two countries over recent years and now the chance has been provided for expansion of economic, political, and cultural relations and using capacities in line with interests of the two nations.”
May said for his part that London welcomes promotion of Tehran-London ties in all spheres.
She said London will continue to support the important step of JCPOA and believes that the two sides should be committed to principles.
She said they were busy making necessary coordination with the JCPOA parties to take necessary measures in connection with settlement of the banking and insurance problems and Iran’s safe use of the economic opportunities.
She noted that Britain will send a banking delegation to Iran for talks and technical cooperation with the Central Bank of Iran.
