Had it not been for careful inspection of South Zagros Oil & Gas Production Co. (SZOGPC) experts, the well could cause a catastrophe like extensive fire in it about one decade ago.
Managing Director of the SZOGPC Gholam-Hossein Montazeri told Shana that Kangan no. 23 b well had been dug to serve as a diversionary well to contain the fire erupted in the no. 23 Kangan well.
Iranian experts successfully contained the well at the depth of 2600 meters beneath the earth, thereby preventing the wasting of precious resources of the well, hurt by landslide.
The well ran with a daily production capacity of 1.8 million cubic meters of gas.
Montazeri said when checking the well this year, the SZOGPC experts realized that the no. 23b Kangan well had been collapsed in the same depth the no. 23 well of Kangan had extensively caught fire due to landslide and damage on junctions about 10 years ago.
Having realized the collapse, a working group was soon formed and decided to kill the well in a swift operation, he said.
The Manager said the well no. 23b of Kangan daily yields 1.5 million cubic meters of gas. Hence, the discarding of the well will result in more than 1.5 million cubic meters cut in the daily production of Kangan field and experts are busy studying ways to compensate for the loss, he added.
