The giant Azar oil field is located in Iran’s western region of Mehran along the border with Iraq.
Azar oilfield, which is shared by Iran and Iraq, is estimated to hold 2.5 billion barrels of in situ oil reserves.
Once fully development, the field will add nearly 65,000 bpd to the country’s oil output.
Oil recovered from the field will be used for feeding petrochemical plants in Dehloran.
The volume of possible oil reserves to be excavated from Azar fields is estimate to be around 400 million barrels.
Iran’s Mehran City on eastern side of Iran-Iraq border with its 30,000 population is on the southwest side of Ilam province and is among the oil rich parts of the province.
